SHINOZAKI:

Shinozaki was a young boy who was a close childhood friend of Makoto Kino. He appeared in episode 049 of the anime. In the beginning of the episode, he was attacked by the lion-like Cardian Falion, who drained him of his energy. Makoto witnessed the attack and stepped in to save her friend, but the Cardian quickly leapt towards her to attack. Shinozaki pushed her out of the way, but became severely injured in doing so. He fell down a ravine and Makoto saw him lying in a pool of blood. When Usagi and Ami arrived on the scene, the Cardian disappeared. Makoto rushed to her friend's side and lifted him up, seeing that he was unconscious and bleeding from his head. An ambulance soon arrived to retrieve him, but they did not have enought type O blood for a transfusion. Makoto said that she was type O, and offered to donate her own blood. He was taken to Juuban General Hospital for the transfusion.

When they arrived at the hospital, Makoto donated blood for Shinozaki. He was completely unsconscious at the time. While at the hospital, Makoto told Ami and Usagi about her friendship with Shinozaki. She said, "Whenever I need someone, he's always there. That's him. I don't remember exactly, but it was when I was dumped by my boyfriend. Who knows how many tiems I got dumped before that?" As the song Anata no Sei ja Nai (It's Not Your Fault) began to play, she thought back to a rainy day in the park when she was dumped by her boyfriend. Her boyfriend left her standing in the rain, but Shinozaki appeared and kindly offers to let her stand under his umbrella. She continued her story by saying, "The person who gently put an umbrella over my head was Shinozaki, my childhood friend. Ever since I was little, whenever I was in pain or having a hard time, he was always there when I looked up. It was the same thing tonight. He tried to save me when he was the one in danger." Usagi excitedly thought that this meant they were in love with each other, but Makoto said, "No... but maybe he's far, far more precious to me than even a lover."

Shinozaki was later released from the hospital into the care of an unidentified female friend. Although it was not explicitly stated, he may have never known that Makoto saved his life; he was unconscious during the transfusion. Makoto, Ami, and Usagi saw him being released. When Ami asked Makoto if she was going to say hello to her friend, Makoto said, "It's okay. He's always watching over me from a distance. So I will just stay here today..." Shinozaki's seiyuu was Yuusuke Numata.
