click for larger version Kotono is one of Rei Hino's classmates at T*A Private Girls' School. She appears only in the manga, making her debut in Act 14, Volume 04. She has a particular interest for all things supernatural, or related to science fiction, such as UFOs and aliens. She is chief of the school's Supernatural Phenomena Group, and her father is the chief of police. In Act 14, Rei meets her at school, and Kotono talks to Rei about an article on the school's bulletin board about a mysterious spontaneous human combustion. She also tells Rei that people have been seeing a lot of UFOs lately. Kotono then learns of another group that is doing a similar presentation on supernatural events at the school's festival. The leader of the rival group enters and introduces herself as Cooan Kurozuki. Just at that moment, a UFO is spotted outside. Everyone becomes very excited, except for Rei - she becomes worried. The next day at the festival, Cooan is telling fortunes, even predicting death dates. She tells everyone that in order to die peacefully, they should join the Black Moon Clan. Kotono suggested they tell the nuns (T*A is a Catholic school), but just at that moment, a group of nuns rushes past, and Rei sees the Black Moon symbol on their foreheads. The two smell something funny, and turn in the direction of the nuns. They see a burnt body lying on the ground, with a nun's habit underneath it - this causes Kotono to faint. Cooan reveals herself and envelopes Rei in a field of fire. Cooan is destroyed by Sailor Moon, but Rubeus appears and informs them that although Cooan is gone, the field of fire cannot be destroyed by anyone. Prince Demand orders Rubeus to send Sailor Mars to him at Nemesis, and he does. Later, as they are planning ways to get Rei back, Kotono tells everyone about the nuns with black crescent moons on their foreheads. Kotono is quite disgusted by the actions of the aliens, but also worried about her friends. After Volume 04, Kotono never appears in the manga again. Kotono's little brother is Kyusuke Sarashina, who appears in ChibiUsa's Picture Diaries. She makes Sailor V pins for him.
