RYOU URAWA:

First Episode: episode 027
Final Episode: episode 041
Seiyuu: Shinichirou Ohta
Episode 027

Ryou Urawa appeared in
episode 027 of the
anime. In the beginning of the episode, he saw Ami walking past a construction site and called out to her. When she turned
to say hello, a large steel beam fell directly behind her - exactly where she would have been standing if he had not
distracted her and caused her to turn. Later that day, when test scores for the midterm exam were posted, they showed that
Urawa scored a perfect 900, beating Ami's second-place score of 899 by just one point. When Ami congratulated him, he acted
very nervous around her. Usagi followed him to the roof of the school, where she saw that he was carrying around a
newspaper clipping from when Ami ranked #1 in the nation on the mock exams. She deduced that he had feelings for Ami, but he
told her that he did not feel worthy of her. He said that he "just guessed" what was on the exams, and that Ami is much more
gifted than he. Usagi committed herself to helping him with his crush on Ami. Just as she was leaving, Urawa displayed his
precognitive abilities once more by warning her to stay away from water. Unfortunately, he was too late... a bucket of
water suddenly came splashing down on her head!
Later, he and Usagi met at
Parlor Bear to
discuss his feelings for Ami. Usagi gave him a cute picture of Ami eating a hamburger, and told him that she would bring Ami
to him later that night after Ami got out of cram school. At the cafe, Luna (who was sitting behind Usagi in the booth) noticed
that the
Moon Stick was reacting to Urawa, indicating that
he was one of the
Nijizuishou carriers.
At the same time,
Zoisite
used the
Kurozuishou to find out the same information.
Zoisite attacked Urawa as he left Parlor Bear, but the boy surprised him by knowing his name and attempting to fight back,
saying that he would rather die than be a "pawn for the devil." Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury witnessed the scene, and
Sailor Moon attempted to distract Zoisite while Sailor Mercury led Urawa to safety. The barely conscious Urawa called
Sailor Mercury "Mizuno-sama," although she denied that it was her true identity. He passed out on a park bench and began to
dream about his future as a youma. When he woke up, he told Sailor Mercury about his psychic abilities and his dream,
instructing him to kill her if he became a youma. Of course she refused, telling him that everything will happen just as he
thinks it will... but if he believes in himself, he will be able to create any future for himself. Unfortunately, Zosite soon
found them, extracted the yellow Nijizuishou, and caused Urawa to transform into the youma
Bunbo.
Urawa did manage to mantain his human heart, and initially only attacked Zoisite. After being manipulated by the Kurozuishou,
however, he grew stronger and attacked Sailor Moon and Sailor Mercury. After a short battle, Sailor Moon managed to use
Moon Healing Escalation to change him back to his normal human form. Later, the girls learned that Urawa was transferring to
another school. They saw him off at the train station, where he told them that he must go wherever his father's work takes
him, so his move couldn't be helped. He returned the photo to Ami, and told her that when he could get a better score than
her with his own abilities, he would come back for the picture. She gave him a better picture of herself to take with him.
As he boarded the train and left, she thought to herself that Urawa could come and see her any time... without having to
worry about grades.
Episode 041

Ryou Urawa's second and final appearance was in
episode 041.
Endymion, who had been brainwashed and was
working with the Dark Kingdom, was attempting to capture all seven former Nijizuishou carriers and trap them within the
Kurozuishou. The Dark Kingdom hoped that although the former youma had been healed by Sailor Moon, they would be able to
use their energy and the power of the Kurozuishou to transform them back into youma. After they were reunited, it was hoped
that they would come together to form one extremely powerful youma to destroy the Sailor Senshi. Ryou figured out what was
happening due to his residual ability to predict the future. Five former youma had already been captured, he knew he was
next. He called Ami from a telephone booth to tell her about the Dark Kingdom plot. Although she wanted to meet him, he told
her to stay away because he did not want her to be involved. He asked her to try to guard Rei's grandfather and prevent the
Dark Kingdom from achieving their goals. Soon after, he encountered the Endymion walking down the street, but managed to
escape by drawing attention to his assailant and running away. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Mercury found him at the same time
that Endymion caught up with him, and Sailor Mercury left to take Ryou to a safe place. Ryou suggested that they go to
Juuban Land, an amusement park which was closed
at the time, because he said that he always wanted to visit an amusement park with Ami. He suggested that they split up,
saying that he was willing to sacrifice his "unworthy" life in order to save the world from the Dark Kingdom. Sailor Mercury
refused, and she told him, "Sacrificing yourself is certainly very honorable, but if you're honest with what's in your heart,
don't you feel that you want to make it through alive? Aren't you forgetting that there are people who will grieve over your
death? Let's both stop running away. Let's take the obstacle head on, no matter what it is." Endymion soon caught up with them
and trapped Ryou within the Kurozuishou. He challenged her to fight him for the crystal, so she used Sabão Spray to distract
him and snatch it away. Once it was in her possession, she threw it to the ground, shattering it and freeing all of the
former Nijizuishou carriers.
After Ryou was freed, he and Ami went back to Juuban Land during regular business hours. They rode the ferris wheel together
and Ami suggested that they return some time.

Although Ryou and Ami were never "officially" in a relationship, it is clear from the two episodes in which he appeared that
there was a romantic connection between the two. In
episode 027,
he revealed to Usagi that he had feelings for Ami, so she gave him a photograph of her friend and promised to help get them
together. He told Usagi that he had resolved to only tell Ami about his feelings once he was able to score higher than her
on an exam. Later, in
episode 041, he called her
to warn her about the Dark Kingdom's plot to gather the former Nijizuishou carriers together, but was hesitant to ask for
her help. Ami decided to try to find him, but when she wanted to give up after not locating him, Makoto scolded her and told
her that Ryou was in love with her. Ami knew, but she said that she could not reciprocate because she had to focus on their
mission. Makoto said, "If you keep telling yourself that, you will regret your youth. Even champions of justice should be
allowed to love! What's wrong with dating a boy that you like? Ami, you're just running away from it. You're scared of being
in love. That's why you came up with all the excuses... so you don't have to deal with Urawa. Why can't you be more honest
about your feelings?" Later in episode 041, after Ryou was rescued from the Dark Kingdom once again, he and Ami went on a
date at
Juuban Land. After episode 041, Ryou
was never seen again in the series, and it is unknown whether or not his relationship with Ami continued.
