PRETTY GUARDIAN SAILOR MOON YOUMA


These youma (sometimes called 'monsters of the day') appear in almost every act of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. They work for the Dark Moon Kingdom, and fight against the senshi. There are no youma in acts 8, 9, 11, 14, and 21 because the senshi are battling against the members of the Dark Kingdom in those acts.


ACT 01
Usagi and Naru go to Naru's mother's jewelry store show rehearsal. Luna watches the two girls, her crescent moon on her forehead glowing red. Three large watery hands (the youma) come in from the ceiling, unapparent to anyone, and Luna realizes that something is there. Later that night, Naru's mother calls her daughter to tell her that she will be unable to make it home that night. Once she hangs up the phone, she is attacked by the watery hands. The next day, Naru's mother is acting very strangely, and Naru cannot figure out why. Naru bumps into a production assistant, who transforms into Jadeite and causes her to become unconscious. Jadeite then tells Naru's mother, Mayumi Osaka, to steal the energy of the people at the jewelry show, and the youma envelopes Mayumi. At the show, Mayumi begins stealing everyone's energy with a purple mist. Sailor Moon then appears, and the large, watery hands begin to attack her. Sailor Moon manages to heal Mayumi Osaka and defeat the youma with her "Moon Healing Escalation" attack.


ACT 02
Jadeite appears at Ami Mizuno's cram school, Alt Seminar, and places a crystal on a clay sculpture of a man and a dog, bringing them to life. The man youma attacks the teacher of the cram school. Later, Ami is sitting in class listening to a disk of "C'est la Vie" given to her by Usagi instead of listening to the teacher. The teacher says that the students should listen very carefully, when the true form of the teacher (as a youma) flashes before Ami. She looks around and sees that the other students in class are beginning to grow very tired, as the youma is draining their energy. Meanwhile, Usagi is walking to the Alt Seminar upon her mother's request that she go to improve her test scores. The teacher sees that Ami is listening to the disk instead of the lecture, and knocks it from her hand. The youma then changes to its true form, and Ami runs, but the youma chases after her. Ami ducks to avoid it, and it bumps into a wall, knocking the body of the unconscious teacher out of itself. Ami continues arriving. By this point, Usagi has arrived and transformed into Sailor Moon. The youma has Ami cornered against a railing. Sailor Moon uses her "Moon Tiara Boomerang," but it only knocks both Ami and the youma over the railing. Sailor Moon reaches over the railing and grabs Ami. Ami then begins to fall, but transforms into Sailor Mercury. Meanwhile, the dog youma revives the man youma on the ground. Sailor Moon rushes to Sailor Mercury, and they clasp hands, but the youma surround them. Sailor Moon uses her "Moon Twilight Flash" attack to defeat the first youma, and Sailor Mercury uses her "Mercury Aqua Mist" attack to defeat the second youma.


ACT 03
Young girls have been disappearing near the Hikawa Jinja shrine. Leaves swirl around, then two hands come from the swirling leaves and grab a girl, then both the girl and youma disappear. Rei, who is a priestess at the shrine, is teased by a group of girls about having something to do with the mysterious disappearances. Usagi and Ami transform themselves into priestesses in order to investigate the situation. They come upon Rei in a panic, and the girl throws a charm at a group of swirling leaves, yelling, "evil, begone!" Suddenly, two hands reach out and grab Rei. Usagi runs after her and grabs onto her, and both girls are pulled into the swirl of leaves. The two then fall out of the swirling leaves in an alternate dimension. The youma appears before them, and Usagi quickly transforms into Sailor Moon to fight it. Vines suddenly appear and bind Sailor Moon, making it impossible for her to move. The youma turns to Rei. Sailor Moon tells Rei to run, and she begins to do so, but notices that her bracelet is glowing. It soon changes into a bracelet like Ami's. Sailor Moon tells her that she is a senshi, and to transform. Sailor Moon then breaks free of the vines. A red light is emitted from the leaf pile upon which Rei is lying, and she transforms into Sailor Mars with "Mars Power, Make Up!" She then begins to fight the youma, and defeats it with "Youma Taisan."


ACT 04
Nephrite creates a youma from a plant by placing a green crystal in it. He sends the plant-like youma after the owner of the Legendary Blue Crystal gem and the policeman who has been assigned to guard it before its unveiling, which will take place at the owner's birthday party. Ami and Rei are walking down the hall when they hear a scream. They find the policeman lying on the floor, and the owner of the jewel holding its box. The owner looks at them with a strange green glow to her face, and the two girls deduct that she is possessed by a youma. They then transform into Sailor Mercury and Sailor Mars. Sailor Mercury pushes the youma and runs off to stall for time. Sailor Mars attacks the youma with her "Youma Taisan" attack, but it only causes it to split in two. She chases after the first youma, which has started to run, but the other grabs her from behind with a vine. Usagi comes in to save her, but can't get out of the costume she is wearing in order to transform. The youma captures Usagi with vines. Rei breaks free of the vines that are holding her back, and breaks Usagi's as well. They then run off, and Usagi manages to get out of her costume to transform. They confront the two youma on the roof of the building, but the two then create another youma! Each time the girls attack one of them, the other two simply heal that one so that it can fight well again. The senshi then decide that they must strike all three youma with their attacks at once. They try their attacks, but the youma are not seriously affected. They realize that they must get their timing just right in order to defeat the youma. They try a second time, but fail once again. Suddenly, Sailor Moon hears Minako Aino's song, C'est la Vie playing from downstairs. This gives her an idea: the three senshi must use the rhythm of the song in order to time their attacks correctly. They begin singing together, and then, all at once, perform "Moon Twilight Flash," "Mercury Aqua Mist," and "Youma Taisan." The three youma are destroyed.


ACT 05
There is an art show at a local museum, and a woman there is wearing a suspicious pendant that may be the Legendary Silver Crystal. Luna sends the senshi to investigate the matter. Meanwhile, Nephrite makes a youma which resembles a colourful piece of modern art. He then tells it that if the pendant IS the Legendary Silver Crystal, it sould be retrieved. Ami runs to the exhibit hall just in time to see the youma attacking the woman and grabbing the pendant. Ami transforms into Sailor Mercury and chases the youma outside and into a forest. It teases her by continually disappearing and reappearing, and she realizes that she cannot track its movements with her eyes, that she must use something else. She leans to the ground and listens carefully to the dew on trees, the babbling of a brook, and other water sounds, then finds its location. Sailor Mercury is just about to attack when the youma launches an attack of its own, causing a small tree to fall on her leg. The youma begins to advance upon her, but her leg is stuck, and she is unable to move. Just then, Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars arrive on the scene. They attack with "Moon Twilight Flash" and "Youma Taisan," destroying the youma.


ACT 06
A youma is masquerading as Takeru, a young and attractive boy for whom several girls fall. Even Makoto falls for him. He goes to steal her energy, and when she touches his hand, she is taken away to the Dark Kingdom, where other girls that have had a crush on Takeru have been turned into statues. The youma, as Takeru, tells Makoto that the girls spent a lot of energy on their infatuations with him, and that he stole that energy. She is quite angered by this, and hits them. Suddenly, she and the now conscious girls are standing in a park, very puzzled. Takeru appears and pulls off his hat, revealing his true form as a youma. The real Takeru falls to the ground and is quite shocked. The youma goes after him, but Makoto tries to rescue him. The youma knocks her to the ground and begins strangling her. She reaches her hand out to Takeru to ask for his help, but he scrambles away, frightened. The world fades away into Makoto's memories and dreams. Various people walk in and out of this dream world, only to leave again. She says that in the end, she is always alone. Sailor Moon suddenly appears and says that this is not so. She tells Makoto to transform, and Makoto notices a bracelet on her wrist. She then transforms with "Jupiter Power, Make Up!," becoming Sailor Jupiter. She immediately destroys the youma with "Supreme Thunder."


ACT 07
We first see this youma in the very beginning of the episode. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen are battling it, and Tuxedo Kamen is injured. Unfortunately, the youma escapes. Later on, several PGSM characters are at an amusement park when Rei catches a glimpse of the youma. She runs after it, but doesn't see it. Her companion at the park, Takai, comes running up, but the youma suddenly taps him on the back and possesses him. Balloons fly into the air, and Rei sees that the youma/Takai has stolen the energy of the clown that was holding them. He then runs over and steals Rei's energy as well, which flows into his turtle-shaped backpack. She immediately calls Usagi on her cell phone, who transforms and soon arrives on the scene with Sailor Jupiter. The youma/Takai appears, and steals energy from a boy. Rei tells Sailor Moon and Sailor Jupiter that the backpack is what contains the energy, and the youma separates from Takai and runs off with the backpack. The two senshi manage to beat the youma to the ground, and Sailor Jupiter does her "Supreme Thunder" attack on a false impression of it, knocking it to the ground. Meanwhile, Sailor Moon destroys the real youma with her "Moon Twilight Flash."


ACT 10
Zoisite sits at his piano and finishes his "Requiem for a Princess." He throws the sheet music upon which he had just been composing to the floor onto a stack of other papers. The papers swirl together to create a youma, and the youma begins singing in an operatic style to the music Zoisite plays on his piano. The voice of the youma sounds throughout Tokyo, and several images of princesses are burned or destroyed, including paintings, dolls, and even portraits in library books. The Princess of Estoa arrives, and is immediately stricken ill. Even a young girl who identified herself with a princess falls ill. The youma is clearly targeting princesses. Rei and Usagi transform into Sailor Mars an Sailor Mercury, and go to look for the youma, which is atop a building. They sneak up on it, while it is still singing, and Sailor Moon uses her "Moon Tiara Boomerang" attack to strike it and knock it down to their level. It begins singing again, and this time musical notes fly at the senshi as they dodge them. It then stops singing and lunges at them. It lands behind them and shoots a single musical note at Sailor Moon, but Sailor Mars blocks it and is herself hit. Sailor Moon rushes to her side while the villain flees, but it is soon stopped by the arrival of Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter. The youma fires notes at the two senshi and hits them, knocking them to the ground. Luna tells Sailor Moon to put her feelings into her Moon Stick in order to save her friends. The youma begins attacking, but Sailor Moon puts all of her energy into her Moon Stick. Pink rays are emitted from the Moon Stick, and begin to overtake the youma's notes. Soon, the youma is defeated.
