The Moon Stick was a powerful weapon used by Sailor Moon in the anime and manga. It was also used in the live-action version (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon), although in that continuum, it was given the name "Moonlight Stick." In the anime and manga, the Moon Stick was previously owned by Queen Serenity during the Silver Millennium.

The Moon Stick was the weapon Sailor Moon used during her "Moon Healing Escalatoin" attack. It first appeared in episode 025 during the senshi's battle with you youma Gesen. Luna leapt into the air and did a somersault to produce the Moon Stick, then Sailor Moon immediately used it in her Moon Healing Escalation attack in order to heal the youma and cause him to revert to his human form. After the battle, Luna told Sailor Moon that since they had not yet found the princess, the presence of the Moon Stick indicated that Sailor Moon should be the leader of the senshi. In the next episode, it was revealed that the Moon Stick has the ability to sense when a Nijizuishou carrier is nearby, and would react when a small jewel on the front flashed, thus helping the senshi locate the Nijizuishou. In subsequent episodes, Sailor Moon was able to use the Moon Stick to locate the Nijizuishou carriers, as well as to heal people who were transformed into youma.

Ginzuishou: In episode 034, Sailor Moon, Tuxedo Kamen, and Zoisite faced off for the Nijizuishou at Starlight Tower. The Dark Kingdom initially collected all seven, and Tuxedo Kamen was severely injured. When Sailor Moon knelt next to him and began to cry, the seven Nijizuishou left the possession of the Dark Kingdom and joined together to form the Ginzuishou from Sailor Moon's tear. The Ginzuishou then immediately affixed itself to the Moon Stick, making it much more powerful.

Origin of the Moon Stick: The Moon Stick's past was learned in episode 044, in a flashback of the Silver Millennium, when it was under attack by the Dark Kingdom. During that time, Queen Serenity attached the Ginzuishou to the Moon Stick and used "Moon Healing Escalation" to destroy the Dark Kingdom's army, including the four Shitennou and Beryl. She was able to seal Metallia away with the power of the Ginzuishou, but she didn't know when the evil entity would be revived again. She told Luna and Artemis that only a descendant of the Moon Kingdom could use the Moon Stick, and that if Metallia awakened in the future, they should give the wand to Princess Serenity in order to protect the peaceful world. She used the last of her strength to send the Senshi and other Moon Kingdom inhabitants to Earth for reincarnation. After she passed away, the power of the Moon Stick encased Luna and Artemis in capsules and sent them to Earth as well.

Lost: In episode 046, after Princess Serenity's final battle with Queen Metallia, Princess Serenity was killed and the Moon Stick was lost. After Sailor Moon was revived in the second season, she was no longer able to use the Moon Stick. When she tried to summon it in episode 048, it never appeared.

Did You Know?

The Moon Stick seems to made of a very strong, hard material. In episode 043, the youma Oniwabandana hits it with her sword, and the sword breaks... although the Moon Stick remains unharmed.
In episode 044, Queen Serenity says that the Moon Stick can only be used by a descendant of the Moon Kingdom.

PRETTY GUARDIAN SAILOR MOON

In Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, the Moon Stick was called the "Moonlight Stick," although it was essentially the same item. It looks similar to the Moon Stick in the anime and manga, although it has a white handle rather than pink, and the crescent moon is made of crystal rather than of metal. Unlike in the anime and manga, the Ginzuishou never attaches to the wand. Sailor Moon used her Moonlight Stick for the attacks Moon Healing Escalation, Moon Twilight Flash, and Moonlight Attractive Attack. It first appeared in Act 01. It was later shattered in Act 27, although it managed to reappear unscathed in Act 28. In Act 48, it was finally destroyed when Queen Metallia attacked Sailor Moon, and Sailor Moon used the Moonlight Stick to defend herself.

Sailor Luna also had her own Moonlight Stick, which she used in her Luna Sucre Candy attack.
