Original Design Current Design The image on top is from the Materials Collection. It is an early drawing of what Naoko Takeuchi originally envisioned Sailor Moon's to be like. The image on bottom is from Artbook I. It is Sailor Moon's outfit as it was determined to permanently look, and as we see it today.

Differences:
The Hair - It was originally proposed to be pink, but today it is blonde (as it is when she is not transformed). The odango are also not as close together in the original drawing.

The Mask - Sailor Moon's mask did make appearances in several Artbook I pictures, and in the first few manga volumes, but later disappeared completely.

Outfit make - Originally, the outfit would have been two separate parts (a top and a bottom), with the top fitting somewhat like a t-shirt. The skirt was to have a straight waist instead of a V waist, and appears to have been a looser fit as well. This style also appears in at least one Artbook I image.

Gloves - Originally had yellow/gold bands around the top, but later this was changed to red. There was a red band around the top of her gloves with a crescent moon on it. This appears in several Artbook I images, but was eventually permanently omitted.

Back Bow - Originally blue, later red to match the front.

Boots - Originally to be white, with a red band around the top that had a crescent moon on it. The boots were originally made red with a white border along the top (instead of around the boot, not making up the border). There is one image in Artbook I that shows a sort of in-between stage: Sailor Moon's boots are white with a red border. The boots were eventually permamently made red with the white border.

Differences Not Pictured:
In some Artbook I images, Sailor Moon is pictured with white hair or wearing a multi-coloured cape. In one Artbook I image, Sailor Moon is shown wearing a boomerang below the bow on her chest, presumably for an attack.
