Rei's Parents



Rei's parents aren't spoken of in the anime, but the manga gives some detail. Rei doesn't like to talk about her parents and, when approached on the matter, usually changes the subject.

Rei's mother died of a "weak heart" when Rei was still very young. Rei remembers little about her mother, except that she was slender and pretty, but always lonely. Rei closely resembles her mother, except that her mother had wavy hair and a more mature look.

Rei's father is a very busy politician in the Liberal Democratic Party (an actual Japanese political party). Rei and her father don't get along well. Apparently, after Rei's mother's death, they had a falling out. It seems that Rei felt that her father wasn't there for her and her mother, so she resented him for it. She believes that she cannot count on her father. She sees him once a year when he takes her to dinner on her birthday. Because of her dislike of her father, Rei hates politics.
