Haruka and Michiru ARE lesbians!

Written circa 2002, edited 23 June 2007

Over time, many people have made claims that Haruka and Michiru were not lesbians. Most people simply claim that they are only "friends," but of course there are others who make up bizarre and totally outrageous stories that are completely untrue. While most people are simply unfamiliar with the situation and are lured into the lies of others, there are still those few that are die-hard believers in the rumours, and it's those few that spread them. Well, here I am to present my evidence that they ARE in fact lesbians.

The main source of the wild rumours is an website called SOS (Save Our Sailors). When I first began looking into Sailor Moon, even I was turned on by their allure - an organization for Sailor Moon fans like myself to keep people updated - sounds very cool! However, today most people have seen how strange they are, and most fans DESPISE them now. They constantly throw around false information, and in my opinion, it's just an attempt to sound official in some way - maybe they just want people to believe in them. Ken Arromdee has some excellent remarks on why people hate SOS so much.

SOS leaders have spread two major rumours of concern: the "friends" theory and the "Prince Uranus" theory. The "friends" theory states that the two women are merely very close friends. They also claim that it is normal for girls in Japan to share this kind of bond. The "Prince Uranus" theory states that during the Silver Millennium, there was a Princess Neptune and Prince Uranus who were in love. Prince Uranus allegedly died during the attack on the Silver Millennium, and was reincarnated during the present day as a woman. SOS even "remembered" an interview which could not be found (because it doesn't exist) in which Naoko Takeuchi (creator of Sailor Moon) supposedly acknowledged Prince Uranus. Since then, they've taken this down due to fan complaints, and admitted that there was no evidence of Prince Uranus. With that, let's get started with MY evidence!!

EVIDENCE

In manga volume 9, act 30, Haruka is shown alive and female after the Moon Kingdom's fall, totally obliterating the idea that she died as a male in the Moon Kingdom. She was a girl, that simple. :)

In episode 95, when asked her girlfriend's name in a romance contest, Haruka replied, "Michiru." Later, they had to leave because they'd win if they didn't. ;)

In episode 107, Masanori, a boy who has a crush on Michiru, gives her roses. Script from rom Hitoshi Doi's page:
Michiru: Are you concerned?
Haruka: A little. Is it from a boyfriend?
Michiru: Of course.
Haruka: I didn't know that there was someone who was brave enough to fall in love with you.
Michiru: It's not often that you get jealous.
Haruka: I'm not jealous. I just can't allow you to look at anyone else besides me.
Michru: Haruka, that's called jealousy.

In the SuperS special, Haruka flirts with a maid who thinks she's a man. Michiru comes in and Haruka promptly stops, ostensibly because Michiru would not like Haruka's flirting.

In the SuperS movie, when the faeries want everyone to remain children forever, Michiru says to Haruka, "It's more fun as an adult, isn't it?" Haruka is flustered an doesn't reply, implying that they do things together as adults the children don't do.

In episode 167, Michiru tells Haruka, "I think you eat too many sweets these days.." Haruka replies, "I never listen to that kind of talk outside of a bed." Wonder what Haruka is thinking about. ;)

In episode 180, Michiru flirts with Seiya, and asks him to change her clothes. Haruka tells him to get out, and Michiru asks if she's jealous, then offers to have Haruka change her clothes.

In episode 181, Haruka doesn't want Usagi dating Seiya, but Michiru stops Haruka. Haruka says to Michiru, "You're hurting me!" Michiru replies softly, "Am I?" Haruka: "I want you to touch me gently." Michiru: "Later, when we're alone." Now, if you people think there's not something going on with these two, you're BLIND!

In Kappa Magazine #51, in September 1996, the following statement appearred in Italian, made by NAOKO TAKEUCHI herself:
"The relationship between Haruka and Michiru is quite special. I think the most important feeling in the world is friendship. The friendship between them is so strong that it becomes love. There's not only heterosexual love, but there also can be a homosexual love, in this case between two girls."
